"I didn't want to do [acting] as a living because . . . I had this notion that it would be sullied and in some way cheapened by all this competition and all this stuff I kept hearing about the dog-eat-dog aspect of it and, you know, it's not true.This whole pursuit is full of people with idealism and with generosity." Brendan Gleeson speaking at the 2006 Excellence Award Ceremony held in his honor.

2006 Excellence Award honoree Mr. Gleeson was celebrated at a special ceremony held at the Harvard Film Archive on Nov. 11, 2006 as part of the 8th Annual Mangers Irish Film Festival. Hosted by the festival's Associate Director Harvey O'Brien, the event inclued a career retrospective as well as a special tribute film produced exclusively for the event and featuring Jim Sheridan, Neil Jordan and John Boorman.

Mr. Gleeson is know for his work in such films as The General, Braveheart, Cold Mountain, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and Breakfast on Pluto. He is one of a select group of Irish actors who have become successful in Hollywood.
